Radical Christians to foul presidential race

with 6 comments

But will it work?

Liberty University has been in the news before - and not for the best of reasons. this time they believe they can shift the presidential race more toward McCain - but bussing students to the polling booth.

In addition to the increased availability of voter registration forms, classes will be canceled on Election Day, and buses will be available to shuttle students to the polls.

“It’s a major election — they really want students to vote,” Liberty freshman Bethany Hernandez said. “Some teachers are giving extra credit if you register to vote.”

Now I don’t know about you - but to me this just is not right and correct. OK - I am all for people registering to vote, to go and vote and to make their voices heard. But extra credit? Paid for buses? and even worse - telling the students who to vote for? That can’t be legal can it?

Since the announcement of the registration campaign, students have been offered voter registration forms by resident advisers during residence hall meetings and by professors during class. Jonathan Woods, a junior at Liberty and resident adviser, said he and fellow RAs were instructed to educate their residents about registering to vote during a regular RA meeting.

Liberty sophomore Zach Rowe said Falwell has been pressuring students not only to vote, but also to register to vote in Virginia.

“It’s definitely been pushed to vote,” Rowe said, “especially to vote locally.”

“The majority of Liberty students want McCain to win,” Woods said.

If this happened in any other country you can simply see the newspaper headlines aout election fraud - why not at home, in the US where this is happening?

Again - you could write this stuff, but that’s the problem - this isn’t fiction!

  1. I thought the republicans have blocked out of state student voters. Notices have gone out to students in Ws and Mn to warn students that their funding will be stopped if they vote at school. Maybe that does not apply to conservitive christen schools???!!!

  2. Correct, Yankee. They even tried it in Virginia! These guys don’t care about rules, laws or commandments. All they care about is keeping their death-grip on power and privilege.

  3. Whoa now, folks, it’s not the conservatives you should be scrutinizing. Due to recent law changes, we now have a month-long voting period in Ohio whereby any newly registered voter can simultaneously register to vote AND cast an absentee ballot. The problem? Proof of identification. It’s supposed to be photo ID (driver’s license, Ohio issued ID card, etc.) but now we also accept proof of residence (utility bill, etc.). Don’t have that? No problem! Just the last four digits of your social security number will do: not the card, just tell them the digits and BAM! You’re registered. This was pushed for by the marvelously pro-Obama group ACORN. So what are they doing now? ACORN members are going to bus stations and parking lots here in Cleveland and offering to give anyone who isn’t registered a ride to the respective voting places. This includes non-citizens, homeless, and transients. Now, I’m all for giving those with the right to vote an opportunity to cast them, but what proof is there that this person won’t vote multiple times? All you have to do is tell them a different four numbers! WTF? Furthermore, concerned Republicans in Columbus attempted to report for duty as poll observers to ensure the process was un-biased/individuals were not coerced to vote one way or the other. The response from ACORN? Observers were not allowed to simply watch to make sure the rules were followed because our dirty (Democrat) secretary of state completely left out a provision for how observing is to be done. And since it’s not provided for, they can’t be there. So now we have who knows how many improper voters casting votes in manners we aren’t allowed to regulate. Way to Ba-rock the vote right out of the democratic process…

Sorry if that’s a bit jumbled, I’m ticked and it came out stream-of-consciousness style….

  4. i think we need to help encourage virginia tech and university of virginia students to do the same to nullify the advantage that the liberty students might have. does anyone know the status of voter registration at these other campuses?

  5. No, no, no. Falwell and Liberty U are only deluding themselves into believing that they will be able to save Virginia for “God’s Own Party.” Obama enjoys a six-point lead in VA. He now leads in ALL regions of the state, even the right-wing Christian west. Moreover, his lead is expected to grow. Liberty University cannot hope to turn this tide.

Christian conservative politicians have been telling us that they’re doing God’s work for years now. Most Christians understand that it is not God’s work to bring the United States to the brink of ruin in His name. We know we’ve been lied to. We understand that these charlatans could not care less about God and country.

  6. Wtf?!? OK, first of all, Liberty University has ALWAYS paid so the students could ride the public buses for free. And secondly, Who’s telling the students who to vote for? Get your facts straight first before you go complaining. They’re pushing the students to vote, don’t confuse that with pushing them to vote for a specific candidate. Notice that teachers are giving extra credit for REGISTERING, not for voting for Barack or McCain.
