Now let me think about that one.

A cross party committee in the House of Commons states that the UK should have a Bill of Rights - but as with everything else the political wrangling will slow any legislation down. You can ask why.

It is a matter that, even though it was a cross party committee, the parties cannot agree as to what will be covered. What I can tell you is that it will be pages and pages long - with one ‘Right’ contradicting another! You can ask why about that one as well.

What many see as the UK - a joint Kingdom of serving nations - or, if we ask many Americans - England, the UK is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. So how would those Rights be interpreted under, say, Scottish law? With difficulty!

Scotland is a devolved country from the Union now - it almost rules itself - and some want a completely free Scotland, independent from Westminster.

So it won’t be easy. But what would a UK Bill of Rights consist of? What Rights would the people of the UK get?

The bill should give greater protection to groups such as children, the elderly and those with learning difficulties, it said in a report.

Labour and the Conservatives agree on the need for a new Bill of Rights, but differ on what areas it should cover.

Oh.

But Shami Chakrabarti, director of campaign group Liberty, said that while the committee had made “vital contributions to our freedom and security”, this latest ambition would be hard to achieve.

“Building on existing protections is a noble aspiration which will be difficult to fulfil as long as so many other politicians denigrate our existing Bill of Rights - the Human Rights Act - in thought, word and deed,” she said.

The government said last year it would look into the possibility of a new Bill of Rights.
