A spokesperson for McCain….
…calls Obama the commander-in-chief!?!? That is a WTF Moment if ever I saw one!
In an apparent attack on Obama Lt. Col. Joe Reypya side-swiped the McCain camp griping about how it was the solemn duty of the president to visit the injured. This, I must admit, I can see and it is perfectly understandable that he should want the American president to visit those injured – all well and good, yeah?
No!
On Saturday, retired Lt. Col. Joe Reypya, speaking on behalf of Sen. John McCain’s campaign, lashed out at Obama’s decision.
“The most solemn duty of a commander in chief is to fulfill his responsibility to the men and women who serve this country in uniform. Barack Obama … broke that commitment, instead flitting from one European capital to the next,” he said in a statement.
But wasn’t the McCain camp saying that Obama was acting too presidential, then not enough, then now saying he IS the president – it kinda gets rather confusing from here on in.
Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a statement that the last thing Obama wanted “was to have injured soldiers get pulled into the back-and-forth of a political campaign.”
Isn’t that reasonable? And, as we know, the visit to Europe wasn’t a political campaign and campaigning – it was a senatorial visit, with REPUBLICANS! So they are complaining about other Republicans, too? Must be – or is it that McCain and his camp want to make this visit into a political boxing ring – if that is the case Obama can, justifiably, return the favour by speaking about McCain’s campaigning outside of the US. All’s fair in love and war, what?
A top aide to Sen. Barack Obama said Friday that the campaign canceled a visit to an American military base in Germany the day before because the Pentagon expressed concerns that it would be viewed as a campaign trip.
So we can also take it that McCain is criticising the Pentagon – does McCain know who the Pentagon are?
Can we safely say the McCain camp is in disarray?
Hmmmmmmmm!
